About

Fashion Exchange was founded in 2008 by a former marketing student, Tonia Zorbas.
The idea came from the increasing budget constraints put on consumers despite their desire for shopping for clothes and accessories. More importantly, the concept stemmed from the wish to do greater good and make a difference by helping reduce clothing wastage which impacts the already fragile earth. According to Oxfam, almost half of the clothes in Britain’s wardrobes go unworn each year which approximately amounts to a staggering 24. billion items of waste that could be used productively. Tonia saw the growing popularity of these events overseas and decided to launch them in South Africa.

Late 2009, Corene Schwartz & Rene Stofberg purchased the company from Tonia, to continue with the great idea of reducing clothing wastage and inspire all our customers to lead and enjoy a greener lifestyle.  It’s also a wonderful way in which to lend a helping hand to various charities, who benefit from the “left-over” clothes from each event.
